They are beautiful and clever but are increasingly vulnerable because of modern farming practices, pollution, climate change and hunting.

It was through his Father, a wood sculptor who had an interest in the natural world that Julian Friers developed the love of wildlife that was to shape his career in art. But even before the first forays into the world of birds and mammals there was drawing.

Join Julian for a Sketch in the Field Session. You will start with an introductory Q&A session with tips and advice on sketching then head out on to the reserve to the birds for a sketching session with Julian. This will be followed by soup and sandwiches provided by The Kingfisher Kitchen and a look back on the day and your art work.

During Seafood Week, Ards and North Down Borough Council, in partnership with Seafish NI, Food NI and Dunleath Estate Ltd, host a one day event celebrating local seafood, local produce and traditional breadmaking in the glorious grounds of Ballywalter Park.

A great day out for all the family with cooking demonstrations from international and local chefs, fish filleting, cheese making, food smoking and fermentation demonstrations and a bread making demonstration by Lady Dunleath using homegrown wheat from the Dunleath estate. Sample and buy produce from over 20 local artisan food and drink producers.
